Crypto trading services provider 3Commas was caught on the FBI’s radar after the data breach it experienced last week!
3Commas Data Breach
In recent weeks, an unidentified Twitter user seized 100 thousand API keys belonging to the 3Commas platform. The unidentified person posted more than 10 thousand API keys on his twitter account and said that he would distribute more randomly in the coming days. After the leak, 3Commas CEO Yuriy Sorokin confirmed that the leak was real with a statement made via twitter. The team has requested that all API keys connected to platform be canceled from Binance, KuCoin and other 3commas-supported exchanges as a precaution to the leak. Yuriy Sorokin, said:
“We did everything that we could to investigate an inside job, as it was always a possible scenario and on our watch list, but proof of an inside job was not found. Only a small number of technical employees had access to the infrastructure and we have taken action since November 19 to remove their access. Since then, we have implemented new security measures and will not stop there; we are launching a full investigation involving law enforcement. We are sorry that this has got so far and will continue to be transparent in our communications around the situation.“
In recent months, many users had claimed that trading transactions had been made on crypto exchanges without their consent. Against these claims, the 3Commas team was arguing that the platform was safe. The suspicious movements that have taken place since the last months have finally been revealed. After the API keys published by the anonymous twitter user, Binance CEO CZ confirmed that the 3Commas leak was real and warned users.
FBI Took Over
After the leaks, the FBI took over the incident and launched an investigation. A 60-person 3Commas group, which was victimized by the leak before the FBI investigation, had requested assistance from the FBI and other law enforcement agencies. The loss of victims is claimed to be more than $20 million.
