Elon Musk Accuses Popular Twitter Account ‘Explain This Bob’ Of Being A Scam, Leading To Its Suspension
The account, @ExplainThisBob, was created last year and had amassed over 402,000 followers before its suspension on Saturday night. The suspension came shortly after Elon Musk became aware of it.
Musk commented, “This sure looks like a scam crypto account. If so, it will be suspended,” directly addressing the account.
Twitter users frequently tagged @ExplainThisBob in various tweets, prompting the bot to respond with an explanation of the original tweet. However, the account was also associated with a cryptocurrency token named $BOB, which experienced a significant drop of over 27% following the suspension.
In response to Musk’s tweet, Bob defended itself, stating, “Bob is not a scam but a decentralized memecoin with 0 tax and no contract ownership. Bob is inspired by Doge and for the people.”
Musk had previously responded to the account in April, expressing his fondness with the comment, “I love Bob.”
Another similar but smaller account, @AskTheWassie, also faced suspension after catching Musk’s attention. Musk warned, “Promotion of scams under the guise of being a funny/helpful bot will result in suspension. Doesn’t matter how much you pay us.”
