Curve Finance Issues Warning Against Fake App in Apple Store
Curve Finance – A counterfeit application pretending to be the decentralized finance (DeFi) platform Curve Finance has surged in popularity on the Apple App Store, ranking among the top 100 finance apps as of October 26. This alarming trend puts unsuspecting users at risk, despite multiple warnings labeling the app as a scam.
Misleading Claims and Poor Design
The fraudulent app, named “Curve defi v3” and developed by a user identified as Tao Duong Van, has been designed to imitate the official Curve Finance logo and functionalities. It falsely claims to provide features such as token swaps, liquidity staking, and various DeFi services. However, user reviews paint a different picture, with many reporting the app as a one out of five stars and explicitly labeling it a “scam” or “hacker.”
One particularly dubious aspect of the app’s marketing includes a statement claiming it has over “30 million global users,” an attempt to establish false credibility and lure potential victims into downloading it.
User Warnings and Social Media Alerts
The issue was brought to light by fintech engineer and app store scam identifier Babu, who highlighted the fraudulent app in a post on X (formerly Twitter). His tweet was among the first to tag the official Curve Finance account, urging users to “stay vigilant and report suspicious apps!”
For the time being, users are strongly advised to report the fraudulent app and avoid any interaction with it while it remains active on the Apple App Store.
A Recurrent Problem
This is not the first instance of a fake app impersonating Curve Finance. On February 14, Curve Finance issued a warning to its community, urging them to “beware of scams” and clarifying that there is no official DeFi Curve app available on the App Store. That earlier unauthorized app was attributed to MK Technology and had received a rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars based on just nine reviews, promoting itself as a “powerful app” for managing borrowers and their loans.
