While Trump did not specify which department Musk might lead, potential fits could include Energy, Commerce, or Transportation, given Musk’s background.
What Led to Trump’s Praise for Musk?
Trump’s admiration for Musk comes after a conversation between the two in an August 13 X Spaces discussion. The talk, delayed by what Musk claimed to be a massive DDoS attack, covered various topics, though some former X employees questioned the validity of Musk’s claims as no widespread issues were reported at the time.
Elon Musk did not initially support Trump in the 2020 election, during which the former president was defeated by then-Vice President Joe Biden. In 2022, Musk expressed a desire for Trump to hang up his hat and sail into the sunset. However, after a reported assassination attempt on Trump in July 2023, Musk shifted his stance, endorsing the Republican and criticizing the policies of Biden and Harris.
