AlienPunk Sets New Record: Second Most Expensive CryptoPunk Sold for $16.42 Million
Crypto News – On March 20th, a historic transaction rocked the digital art world as CryptoPunk #7804 exchanged hands for a staggering 4,850 ETH, equivalent to an eye-watering $16.42 million. Notably, this sale catapulted the unique “AlienPunk” into the annals of crypto history, marking it as one of only nine such rarities within the larger CryptoPunks collection of 10,000 NFTs.
This remarkable acquisition surpassed the previous record holder, CryptoPunk #3100, which had commanded a price of 4,500 ETH (approximately $16.03 million) on March 4th, a mere two weeks earlier. With this latest transaction, CryptoPunk #7804 now claims the title of the second most expensive CryptoPunk sold within the span of a single month.
However, standing unchallenged as the reigning champion is CryptoPunk #5822, which attained legendary status after fetching a staggering 8,000 ETH, valued at $23.7 million, on February 12, 2022.
The meteoric rise in CryptoPunk sales is evident in recent market data. According to The Block’s Data Dashboard, trade volume for CryptoPunks surged to $7.03 million between March 10th and March 16th, with sales totaling an impressive $25.52 million in the preceding week.
It’s worth noting that CryptoPunks, the brainchild of Yuga Labs, emerged as a pivotal force in the NFT landscape. Originally conceptualized by Larva Labs, Yuga Labs acquired the intellectual property rights to CryptoPunks in March 2022, further solidifying its position as a dominant player in the realm of digital collectibles alongside its popular creation, the Bored Ape Yacht Club.
