While the delay may seem significant, Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart stated that this is standard procedure for the SEC and should not be seen as a cause for concern. Seyffart emphasized that delays are typical, particularly as Paul Atkins, President Donald Trump’s pick for SEC Chair, has not yet been confirmed by Congress.

This recent delay follows a broader trend, as the SEC has been pushing back decisions on multiple altcoin ETF filings. Earlier in February 2025, the SEC also delayed a decision on Cboe Exchange’s request to list options tied to Ether (ETH) ETFs. According to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, “everything is delayed,” referring to the growing number of crypto-related ETFs seeking approval, including staking and in-kind redemption ETFs for Ether.

The SEC’s delay comes amid a changing regulatory landscape. The resignation of former SEC Chair Gary Gensler in January 2025, combined with the election of Paul Atkins, has led to significant shifts in the Commission’s approach to cryptocurrency regulation. Under Gensler, the SEC took an aggressive stance on crypto regulations, with over 100 crypto-related actions during his tenure. Since his departure, several crypto-related legal cases, such as those involving Gemini and Cumberland DRW, have been dismissed.
