Crypto News – What Coinbase’s 24/7 Bitcoin and Ethereum Futures Mean for U.S. Crypto Enthusiasts

Crypto News – Coinbase, the leading U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchange, has announced that it will soon offer 24/7 futures trading for Bitcoin and Ethereum via its Coinbase Derivatives platform. This move marks a significant milestone, as it will be the first time U.S. clients can trade crypto futures around the clock. While the exchange did not provide an exact launch date, it confirmed that the service would be available in the coming weeks.

Futures Trading for Enhanced Market Access

According to Coinbase, the new service will allow traders uninterrupted access to manage risk and seize opportunities, aligning with the continuous nature of the crypto market. By introducing futures contracts, traders can buy or sell Bitcoin or Ethereum at predetermined prices on set expiration dates. Coinbase emphasized that this move was made in response to strong demand from crypto-native traders, and it will offer various contract sizes to cater to different needs.

In the world of derivatives, traders will also have the opportunity to buy and sell micro futures, which represent a fraction of the underlying asset. This feature makes the service more accessible for traders with different risk tolerances and investment capacities.

Crypto Derivatives Market Outpaces Spot Trading

The crypto derivatives market is vastly larger than traditional spot trading. In the past 24 hours, $151 billion has been traded in the spot markets, while the derivatives market saw a massive $879 billion in transactions, according to CoinGecko data. Coinbase aims to make U.S. markets more accessible and competitive by offering this innovative product, positioning itself as a leader in global standards for crypto trading.

Looking Ahead: Perpetual Futures in the U.S.

Coinbase has also announced plans to introduce perpetual-style futures with long-dated expirations in the U.S., further expanding its offerings. The exchange acquired the CFTC-regulated derivatives exchange FairX in 2022 and rebranded it as Coinbase Derivatives Exchange to strengthen its position in the futures market.

This move aligns Coinbase with global crypto exchanges already offering 24/7 futures trading, further solidifying its place in the competitive U.S. market.
