Bill Gates Doge Comment: Trump’s Plan To Slash Federal Spending Gains Gates' Support For Efficiency Methods

Recently, Bill Gates shared his opinions about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Regarding President Donald Trump’s DOGE, the multibillionaire Microsoft co-founder told Emma Tucker of The Wall Street Journal that it could be beneficial to examine government spending using a zero-based budgeting method.

The U.S. government’s deficit needs to be brought down because otherwise it will create a financial problem for us and so that effort could come up with some good things.

Shortly after winning the 2024 presidential election, Trump announced plans to establish DOGE in mid-November. Both the president and Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, who has been assigned to lead DOGE, have stated that the department’s objective is to drastically reduce federal government spending and increase efficiency. Musk told Mark Penn, the CEO of Stagwell Inc., in early January that the company had a high chance of receiving $1 trillion, which is part of DOGE‘s larger goal to reduce government spending by $2 trillion.

Trump’s Post-Election Budget Talks: Gates Highlights Global Health Concerns

Given the figures they have floated, the Microsoft co-founder predicted that DOGE will need to examine every aspect for possible cost savings, according to The Journal. He gave healthcare, defense, and pensions as examples.

My view is, most departments there probably are 10-15%. I do worry a little bit that if you say, ‘hey, let’s completely get rid of things,’ some of the things that have long-term benefits.

I obviously believe in HIV medicines, where the US is keeping tens of millions of people alive. If you cut those off, not only would they die when we have a cure on its way, but the negative feeling you have in, say, Africa would be worse than never having done the thing at all. So parts of the budget I know well, yes, you could optimize, but I hope the value system still includes the half a percent that saves all those lives.

Gates also said that during a long discussion with Trump following the election, the Microsoft billionaire brought up health issues including polio and HIV, the outlet reported. Trump seemed enthusiastic and eager to contribute to the advancement of innovation, he said, adding that he was genuinely impressed by how well he had shown a great deal of interest in the topics he raised.
