Ordinals New Update Will Now Allow Inscription Sizes to Be Larger than 4MB

The “recursive inscriptions” No. 2167 upgrade by Casey Rodarmor has been included in the Ordinals source on GitHub by “Raphjaph,” the current principal maintainer of the Bitcoin protocol Ordinals.

According to developer Leonidas.og, inscriptions can now make requests for content from other inscriptions using the particular “/-/content/:inscription id” syntax. A plethora of new possibilities can be made possible by this minor change.

An Example of the Update

For instance, it would be preferable to inscription 200 features from the collection, then 10,000 more inscriptions, each of which uses a small amount of code to request the features and render the image programmatically, as opposed to the inscription of 10,000 JPEG files individually for a PFP collection (which would be prohibitively expensive). Simply said, the artwork is preserved on-chain more effectively, saving Bitcoin Apes over $1 million in transaction expenses.

Similar to BRC721, each inscription has the ability to invoke a function. However, unlike BRC721, the function’s execution code is only present in text form, and the volume is very little. Because of this, even if a single inscription is less than 4MB in size, the overall inscription may be larger. The entire blockchain for Bitcoin is used to store complex 3D video games.

About Ordinals

On the Bitcoin blockchain network, NFTs can be produced via the Bitcoin Ordinals protocol. Data associated with Satoshis, the lowest unit of BTC, is used to construct ordinals, also known as Bitcoin NFTs.
