Metaplanet Bitcoin Investment: 150 BTC Bought for $12.5M

Metaplanet Bitcoin Investment– Japan’s Metaplanet, a Tokyo-based company, has issued additional zero-interest bonds, raising 2 billion yen (approximately $13.4 million) to purchase 150 BTC, valued at around $12.5 million. These funds will help the company continue its strategy of increasing its bitcoin holdings, capitalizing on the recent price drop of the cryptocurrency.

Metaplanet’s announcement confirmed that Evo Fund is the sole bondholder, with the bonds set to be fully redeemed on September 17. This marks another step in Metaplanet’s regular issuance of zero-interest bonds, a tactic they’ve been using to build their bitcoin reserves over time. The company has been taking advantage of the recent price correction in bitcoin, with the digital asset currently trading around $83,300—about 24% lower than its all-time high in January.

Continued Growth of Bitcoin Holdings

The company’s bitcoin purchases don’t stop here. Last week, Metaplanet purchased 162 BTC for $13.5 million, at an average price of $83,123 per bitcoin. With this latest acquisition, Metaplanet now holds 3,200 BTC, worth approximately $265 million. This makes it the 10th-largest publicly listed entity in terms of BTC holdings, according to data from bitcointreasuries.net.

Metaplanet’s consistent bond issuances and bitcoin purchases demonstrate their strategy of accumulating bitcoin, particularly while prices are lower following recent market corrections. As the largest cryptocurrency by market cap hovers at a significantly lower price point, Metaplanet’s decision to continue building its reserves positions them for potential long-term benefits.

This approach has led to Metaplanet becoming a significant player in the crypto space, building one of the largest public Bitcoin treasuries. However, their continuous reliance on zero-interest bonds reflects the company’s focus on future growth in the cryptocurrency market.
