Jack Dorsey Linked to Bitcoin’s Creation – What Does This Mean for Crypto?
Jack Dorsey – A recent post on X has reignited the long-standing debate about the true identity of Bitcoin’s creator, with entrepreneur Jack Dorsey once again being theorized as Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous founder. The theory was presented by Seán Murray, the president and chief editor of deBanked, who outlined several connections between Dorsey and Bitcoin’s history, sparking a new round of speculation in the crypto community.
Murray’s theory draws attention to several intriguing coincidences that could link Dorsey to Bitcoin’s creation. One of the most notable is that the first Bitcoin transaction took place on Dorsey’s mother’s birthday, January 11, and the last Bitcoin block mined by Satoshi supposedly occurred on his father’s birthday, March 5, 2010. These personal milestones appear to tie Dorsey closer to the mysterious creator.
Bitcoin’s Source Code and Satoshi’s Activities
Murray also pointed to timestamps in the original Bitcoinsource code documents, which he claims were set to exactly 4 AM — a time Dorsey allegedly had listed on his Twitter profile. Furthermore, Murray suggested that the Bitcoin address “jD2m”, which was used by Satoshi, might refer to Jack Dorsey’s previous residence at 2 Mint Plaza in San Francisco.
Skepticism and Criticism
While Murray has presented these claims with supporting evidence, many within the crypto community remain skeptical. Jameson Lopp, a prominent Bitcoin cypherpunk, criticized Murray’s theory, stating that without definitive proof, accusing someone of being Satoshi can be damaging, both to the person in question and their family. Critics also point out that if Dorsey were indeed Satoshi, it seems unlikely that he would openly display a “Satoshi” shirt, as he did at the 2024 Super Bowl.
The Ongoing Mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto
While Dorsey has never confirmed these theories, and indeed denied being Satoshi in a 2020 interview, the debate continues. The identity of Satoshi Nakamoto remains one of the greatest mysteries in the crypto world, with several figures, including Hal Finney, Nick Szabo, and Peter Todd, previously being speculated as the true creator of Bitcoin.
