Bonk Surges as Rex Shares Files for Spot Crypto ETF
Bonk, the second-largest meme coin on the Solana blockchain, experienced a notable 6.5% price increase, emerging as one of the top-performing tokens in its category. Over the past week, Bonk has rallied approximately 26%, buoyed by news of a significant development in the crypto industry.
The surge followed an ETF application filing by Rex Shares, a prominent asset management firm overseeing more than $8 billion in assets. The application includes spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tied to Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, Ripple, Dogecoin, and Bonk itself. This move signals growing interest in broader crypto investment products.
Market analysts suggest that the SEC, under the leadership of Paul Atkins, may adopt a more favorable stance toward approving spot crypto ETFs. However, skepticism remains regarding meme coins, as the regulatory body has historically focused on leading cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. The possibility of Bonk’s inclusion in institutional investment portfolios remains uncertain.
Crypto ETFs have seen substantial traction among institutional investors, with Bitcoin ETFs attracting over $35 billion in inflows and Ethereum-focused funds amassing $2.66 billion. Despite this momentum, many institutions are expected to exercise caution when it comes to allocating resources to meme coins like Bonk.
Since its 2022 launch, Bonk has grown into a formidable player in the meme coin market, boasting a market capitalization exceeding $2.3 billion. However, it faces mounting competition from rival Solana-based tokens such as Fartcoin, Dogwifhat, and Gigachad, which continue to vie for investor attention in this rapidly evolving sector.
