Crypto Market Dynamics: Altcoins Likely to Surge in 2025, Analysts Say
Crypto Market Dynamics– On January 10, CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju shared a critical observation about the current altcoin market, calling it a “zero-sum PvP game.” This suggests that the gains in the altcoin market are mostly internal, with no new capital inflow, meaning one trader’s profit is another’s loss. The altcoin market remains highly competitive, with limited capital moving in.
Bitcoin’s Growth vs Altcoins’ Struggles
Ju noted that Bitcoin’s (BTC) market value has doubled recently, yet the total market capitalization of altcoins remains below previous all-time highs. He emphasized that only 3-5 altcoins with solid use cases and narratives are likely to survive in the long term.
Analysts Predict a Brighter Future for Altcoins
While Ju paints a cautious picture for altcoins, Citi analysts are more optimistic about their future. According to Jinshi, on January 8, 2025, Ethereum (ETH) is seen as a prime candidate for rotation within the market, thanks to its recent spot ETF approval alongside Bitcoin. Citi analysts believe that Bitcoin’s breakout in 2024—a 116% surge—was significant, driven by major events such as the halving and Trump’s election victory.
The Likely Rise of ‘Altcoin Season’ in 2025
Citi analysts predict a “strong year for Bitcoin” in 2025, followed by what they term as an “altcoin season.” Ethereum has already risen 59% in just one month, and growth is also expected for other altcoins like Ripple (XRP), Solana (SOL), and Tron (TRX). This shift is expected to be driven by new narratives and continued growth in venture capital (VC) investments.
VC Activity and Investment Surge
Pitchbook reported that crypto fundraising surged to $2.4 billion in Q1 2024 across 518 deals, marking a 40.3% increasein invested capital. Early-stage projects, particularly those with strong narratives, have seen significant growth. If these trends persist, investments in well-positioned altcoin projects are likely to see a surge, supporting both Ju’s and Citi’s outlook on the market’s future.
The combination of rising capital inflow and emerging use cases indicates a potential turning point for altcoins in 2025, despite their current struggles.
