From Digital Resistance to Animal Welfare: The Story Behind DOGS Memecoin
After his incarceration in France in August, Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov rebranded the company as TON and used his famous dog drawing as a global symbol of Digital Resistance as the inspiration for the DOGS memecoin project. In 2011, Durov was asked to remove posts by liberal thinkers and dissidents from Russia, which is when the dog symbol was first used.
In September, 17 million people were reached via the DOGS token’s airdrop. About 42 million people were eligible for the token airdrop, which was intended to raise awareness of cryptocurrency on the messaging app and support animal welfare, out of the over 53 million users of the Dogs Mini App on Telegram.
