Google Enhances Gemini Ai With Gems: Personalized Ai Assistants For Every Task

Google announced on Wednesday that it has released configurable “Gems,” the first significant update to its main AI model, Gemini, in an effort to challenge OpenAI’s hegemony in the AI marketplace. Additionally, Gemini will incorporate Imagen 3, the company’s AI picture creator, natively. However, since an earlier version resulted in faulty photographs and led Google to pull the tool offline, it will still not generate images of humans.

Gems—which Google first unveiled at Google I/O in May—allows users to construct a modular set of personalized AI assistants based on the Gemini model that can be used for tasks ranging from coding to career advice. This functionality is similar to the GPT feature from OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Gems are available for Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users, according to Google.

With Gems, you can create a team of experts to help you think through a challenging project, brainstorm ideas for an upcoming event, or write the perfect caption for a social media post. Your Gem can also remember a detailed set of instructions to help you save time on tedious, repetitive, or difficult tasks.

Gemini also has an AI-powered rewrite option to help creators who might not have the right wording in mind to construct their Gems fine-tune the prompt that sets one up. The results of Gems can be added to an email draft in Gmail or Google Docs, or shared via a link on social media.

With regards to sharing, the Gems you create are for personal use at this time. You can share chats that you’ve had with Gems by creating a public link, but shared chats with Gems cannot be continued by others you share the link with.

Compared to GPTs from OpenAI, which may be shared more freely with others who require the same customization, this is a more constrained solution. The tech giant reaffirmed its careful deployment strategy and added further built-in capabilities to Gemini with the inclusion of its Imagen 3 picture generator.
