UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs Advocates for Telegram CEO Pavel Durov After Paris Arrest
Following Pavel Durov‘s arrest on Saturday by French police, the United Arab Emirates indicated on Monday that it is closely observing his progress. Durov is the founder and CEO of Telegram. Durov, an Emirati national and entrepreneur of Russian descent, was taken into custody on Saturday at Paris-Le Bourget Airport in connection with a legal probe that was started last month. According to a statement from the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it had asked the French authorities to immediately grant him full consular services.

Pavel Durov Investigated in France: Telegram CEO Faces 12 Criminal Allegations
The Paris prosecutor’s office disclosed on Monday that the investigation into Durov includes 12 suspected criminal offenses related to the messaging app Telegram. These accusations cover systematic fraud, money laundering, distribution of drugs and child pornography, reluctance to assist law enforcement, collaboration in aiding illicit activities, and the unauthorized use of cryptographic technologies.
Durov’s custody was prolonged by a French investigative magistrate on Sunday night, but no charges had been filed by Monday afternoon. French law allows for a maximum four-day detention period for questioning Durov, following which a judge will decide whether to press charges or release him.
