Crypto News – Two mysterious Bitcoin wallets, dormant for over a decade, have recently sprung into activity, transferring a total of 1,000 Bitcoins—now valued at $61 million. Originally acquired more than ten years ago when Bitcoin was priced at just $134, these Bitcoins have appreciated by 456 times their initial purchase value.

The activity began when wallet address “16vRq…qjzEa” moved its 500 Bitcoins at 7:10 pm UTC on May 12, according to data from Blockchain.com‘s Bitcoin block explorer. The transaction occurred at block 843,131. Shortly thereafter, another 500 Bitcoins were transferred by the wallet address “1DUJuH…NgfC5” two blocks later. Both wallets had received their respective 500 Bitcoins back on September 12 and 13, 2013.

Following the transfers, the Bitcoins from “16vRq…qjzEa” were redistributed to multiple other wallets, while the Bitcoins from “1DUJuH…NgfC5” remained in a single address. This coordinated timing has led blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain and other observers to speculate that both wallets may be controlled by the same entity or individual.

Before these transactions, the wallets were ranked as the 4,353rd-largest Bitcoin holders, according to BitInfoCharts. This activity follows a recent pattern where at least one early Bitcoin wallet becomes active each month, as noted by Chainalysis and Fortune. Despite the significant amount of Bitcoin that remains dormant, the recent movements highlight ongoing interest and speculation about the strategic reasons behind such transfers—be it to capitalize on the current market or to secure the holdings in more robust wallet solutions.

Currently, Bitcoin’s price stands at $61,450, marking a 130% increase over the past year.
