BitPay Announces Support for Users to Purchase ETH with Apple Pay
The announcement was shared in a tweet from the platform’s official Twitter account.
According to the news, users will now be able to buy Ethereum using the platform’s self-custody wallet software or Apple Pay-compatible purchasing widget. Thus, users can effortlessly buy more than 50 cryptocurrencies, especially Ethereum and Bitcoin, using the platform’s app that allows them to pay with cryptocurrency.
What is BitPay?
In Atlanta, Georgia, and the United States, the platform offers cryptocurrency payment services. Stephen Pair and Tony Gallippi launched it in May 2011. It offers merchants options for processing payments in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. In order to help businesses who want to accept Bitcoin, the company was first founded in 2011. The platform, including especially WordPress Bitcoin merchants, reached 1,100 active traders as of October 2012.
The Relationship with Apple
In 2021, the platform became a part of Apple Wallet and Apple Pay, enabling the use of Bitcoin on websites, in stores, and through applications. The company’s larger objective is to profit from the recent increase in the value of Bitcoin, and the Apple Pay connection is a part of that.
To become a national trust bank by the end of 2020, the platform submitted an application to the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). The company’s recent move will help consumers who want to use cryptocurrency for real-world transactions because of the popularity of Apple Pay and the saturated market. Thus, users can quickly convert their cryptocurrencies into USD using BitPay cards associated with Apple Wallet. As a result, they can use it anywhere to pay.
