Cash App Founder Bob Lee Died in a Knife Attack
On Tuesday in San Francisco, Bob Lee, the founder of the Cash App, was fatally stabbed. Police discovered the 43-year-old at around 2.35 in the morning, and he was taken to the hospital but died from his wounds there. Lee’s father, Rick Lee, and his current company, MobileCoin, both verified the news of his passing. Uncertainty surrounds the motive for the stabbing, and the authorities have not yet disclosed any information regarding any potential suspects.
Who was Bob Lee?
With Redrock Communications, Lee began his professional life in 1997 as a web developer. Over the ensuing years, he worked with numerous prestigious companies, such as Capgemini, OCI, and AT&T. Moreover, he worked as a staff software engineer at Google from 2004 and 2010 before leaving to become Square’s CTO.
As an early-stage investor and part-time advisor, Lee joined MobileCoin in February 2021. He was appointed chief product officer of the cryptocurrency company in November of that same year. Years of experience from work at several companies were brought with him.
In the six years prior to joining MobileCoin, Lee served as CEO of Present. In SV Angel and SignalFire, Lee also served as a limited partner. On the other hand, the Cash App is what most people remember Lee for. At the time Cash App was released in 2013, he was Square’s chief technology officer.
Lee, sometimes referred to as “Crazy Bob,” invested in tech start-ups. He made investments in companies like SpaceX, Clubhouse, Tile, Figma, Faire, Orchid, Addressable, Nana, Ticket Fairy, Gowalla, Asha, SiPhox, Netswitch, Found, and others, according to his LinkedIn page.
About the Passing Away of Bob Lee
Many people expressed their sadness about Bob Lee, whose death was confirmed by a post shared by his father, Rick Lee, on his Facebook account.
MobileCoin’s CEO Joshua Goldbard also said about Lee’s death:
“Our dear friend and colleague, Bob Lee passed away yesterday at the age of 43, survived by a loving family and collection of close friends and collaborators. Bob was a dynamo, a force of nature. Bob was the genuine article. He was made for the world that is being born right now, he was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real,”
