2024 Blockchain Gaming Survey Shows Rising C-Suite Influence And Talent Infusion

According to statistics from the fourth annual survey conducted by the Blockchain Gaming Association, the top-heavy nature of the blockchain-based gaming industry is growing as it becomes more widely accepted. The 2024 survey, which was the association’s biggest move to date, collected and examined information from 623 Web3 gaming industry survey participants. C-suite executives and professional e-sports players were among the industry professionals polled.

The 2024 survey shows a significant growth in the C-suite and an infusion of talent with past gaming industry expertise, even though many things have stayed the same since the annual poll started in 2021, such as the belief that trust and user experience difficulties are the key factors preventing acceptance. 73.2% of respondents held high management positions, according to a study summarizing the survey’s findings.

Of these, senior leadership remained prominent, with 46.7% of respondents at the founder, director, or C-level position — the highest representation seen in four years.

Crypto Winter and NFT Boom Lead to Slower Hiring in the Blockchain Gaming Industry

In addition to pointing to tighter budgets and recruiting slowdowns following the crypto winter following the so-called NFT boom of 2021, the report said that the concentration of top posts in the industry signals consolidation. The Blockchain Gaming Association claims that slower hiring and smaller budgets are to blame for the industry’s top-heavy structure.

However, part of the movement at the top may be explained by the intake of outside talent. Of those surveyed, over half (52.5%) said that their main area of expertise was gaming. Compared to 2022 (39.2%) and 2023 (34.2%), this is a significant increase.

Just 10.8% of respondents identified as blockchain or cryptocurrency experts, compared to roughly 21% in 2022 and 2023 and 27.4% in 2021. With competitors for mainstream appeal set to emerge from Ubisoft, Square-Enix, CCP, and others, the Web3 gaming industry looks poised for a robust breakthrough into the AAA gaming market in 2025.
