Solana PR Nightmare: Backtracks After Massive Backlash!

Solana Pr Nightmare: Backtracks After Massive Backlash!

The “America is Back—Time to Accelerate” advertisement was taken down by Solana after receiving harsh condemnation from the cryptocurrency community on X, who called it offensive, cringe, and divisive. By dark on Monday, the now-deleted advertisement had received almost 1.4 million views. The video contained apparent political messaging, specifically against gender diversity and patriotic overtones.

The video’s scene where a young man, purportedly under treatment for rational thinking syndrome, stated, “I want to invent technologies, not gender,” attracted the attention of the cryptocurrency community. Although the video has been removed, other users on X have republished it.

This might be the single most toxic piece of content I have ever consumed. It’s like the Coinbase ads if they were created by an incel who hasn’t left the basement in years,

Critics said the video went against the industry’s core principles of neutrality and global inclusivity, reflecting the growing difficulties surrounding political messaging in the crypto realm. The advertising fell short, according to Base’s product lead, Anneri van der Merwe.

Offensive, cringe, and pandering. Base is for everyone. Solana co-opted the ‘is for everyone’ phrase last week too. This ad shows there’s still a long way to go in truly embracing that ethos,

Similar displeasure was voiced by other industry leaders. Cinneamhain Ventures partner Adam Cochran questioned the judgment that went into its establishment. The CEO of DEX protocol Avnu.Fi, mentor Reka, ascribed the tone of the advertisement to a purposeful attention-grabbing tactic. Even Anatoly Yakovenko, a co-founder of Solana, disassociated himself from the campaign, stating in a post that the company’s prior “Maren ad was better,” alluding to a less contentious marketing campaign.
