PI Token Supply Rises, Sentiment Drops – What’s the Impact?

PI Price– With 5.6 million PI tokens unlocked today, market watchers are closely monitoring whether this will fuel upward momentum or trigger a wave of sell-offs. So far, the price remains stable near the $0.60 support, but the coming hours may determine the short-term trend.

What’s Behind the Token Unlock?

While today’s 2.8 million token release may seem minor, it’s only a glimpse of what’s ahead. Data from PI Scan shows that over 108.9 million tokens are scheduled for release throughout April 2025 alone. This number is expected to rise, with monthly unlocks averaging 134.39 million tokens, peaking in December 2027 at 432.3 million.

Upcoming releases for May, June, and July (190.9M, 226.6M, and 233.4M respectively) suggest sustained supply-side pressure that may challenge investor confidence over time.

Past Unlocks Paint a Mixed Picture

Market reactions to past token unlocks have been inconsistent. The April 19 unlock of 7.8 million tokens coincided with a 6% price increase, signaling short-term bullish sentiment. Conversely, the April 16 unlock led to a 2% decline, showing how quickly market mood can shift with token flows.

Sentiment Strained by Roadmap Delays

Uncertainty around Pi Network’s Mainnet migration is also shaping market sentiment. Despite long-standing promises, many users remain unsure when their tokens will be usable. The lack of a clear timeline is causing frustration, particularly among early adopters or “pioneers.”
