Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Holdings with Latest 1,111 BTC Purchase, Surpassing 11,000 BTC Total
Tokyo-based Metaplanet has announced another major acquisition, purchasing 1,111 Bitcoin at an average price of $106,408 per coin, bringing its total bitcoin holdings to 11,111 BTC. The latest purchase was disclosed on Monday during Asian trading hours.
According to CEO Simon Gerovich, the company’s cumulative bitcoin treasury — now totaling 11,111 BTC — was acquired at an average price of $95,869 per bitcoin, with an aggregate investment of approximately $1.07 billion. Based on current market valuations, Metaplanet’s bitcoin holdings are now worth around $1.12 billion.
This latest acquisition comes just a week after Metaplanet reached its previously stated year-end target of 10,000 BTC, several months ahead of schedule. The aggressive accumulation strategy has positioned Metaplanet as the ninth-largest corporate bitcoin holder globally, overtaking Coinbase’s treasury and inching ahead of bitcoin miner Hut 8, which holds 10,273 BTC, according to data from Bitcointreasuries.net (pending updates to reflect the recent purchase).
Earlier this month, revised its strategic goals, now aiming to amass 30,000 BTC by the end of 2025, 100,000 BTC by 2026, and an ambitious 210,000 BTC by 2027, signaling the firm’s strong long-term commitment to bitcoin as a core treasury asset.
Despite the positive momentum in its bitcoin holdings, Metaplanet’s shares, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, were trading down 3.54% at 1,718 yen ($11.72) as of 11:30 a.m. local time on Monday. Nevertheless, the stock remains up an impressive 393% year-to-date, according to Yahoo Finance data.
