July 5 BTC News – Bitcoin Worth Billions Moved After 14 Years
July 5 BTC News – A mysterious $8.6 billion Bitcoin (BTC) transfer from eight long-dormant wallets has sparked speculation of a historic hack, with Coinbase’s Head of Product, Conor Grogan, suggesting it might be the biggest digital heist in history—if malicious actors are involved.
Grogan: “Could Be the Biggest Heist Ever”
In a post on X, Grogan said there’s a slight chance that the BTC wallets, untouched for over 14 years, were compromised or hacked. He added, “If true, this would be by far the largest heist in human history.”

The wallets, each holding massive amounts of Bitcoin acquired in 2011, suddenly came to life on Thursday, transferring 10,000 BTC at a time to new addresses.
Suspicious Bitcoin Cash Transaction Raises Questions
What really caught Grogan’s attention was a small Bitcoin Cash (BCH) transaction made just before the BTC movements. He suspects this might have been a private key test, since BCH transfers don’t typically trigger whale alerts.
“I found a single BCH test transaction from one of the BTC whale clusters 14 hours ago,” Grogan noted. “An hour later, the BTC wallets began to move.”
However, he added that it’s odd the other BCH wallets weren’t touched, which adds to the mystery.
8 New Wallets, No Exchange Movement
According to blockchain firm Arkham, all the BTC is now resting in eight fresh wallets and has not been moved since. The original coins were transferred into the old wallets back in April or May 2011.

Despite the rumors, Bitcoin’s price has remained stable, dipping just 1.02% to $108,150 in the past 24 hours.
This story has ignited intense speculation across the crypto space—and if Grogan’s theory proves true, the crypto world could be witnessing a digital crime for the ages.
