Lufthansa Launches Uptrip: A Polygon-Powered NFT Platform for Travelers
Lufthansa Group, one of the world’s leading airline companies, has unveiled a new loyalty program that leverages the power of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) to reward its customers with unique digital collectibles and benefits.
The program, called Uptrip, is available for all passengers who fly with any of the group’s airlines, such as Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, and more. Uptrip allows passengers to collect digital trading cards that represent various aspects of their travel experience, such as destinations, aircraft models, and holidays.
The trading cards are minted as NFTs on Polygon, a scaling solution for Ethereum that enables fast and cheap transactions. NFTs are digital assets that have unique properties and can be verified on the blockchain. They can be used to create digital art, music, games, and more.
By collecting all the cards in a certain theme or category, Uptrip users can unlock special perks from the airlines, such as free Wi-Fi on board, access to airport lounges, redeemable air miles, and more. Uptrip also plans to introduce a trading feature that will allow users to exchange their cards with other collectors.
Uptrip is the result of the innovation efforts of the Lufthansa Innovation Group, which aims to explore new technologies and business models for the airline industry. Uptrip has already attracted over 20,000 users who have collected more than 200,000 digital trading cards during its soft launch phase.
Lufthansa Group is not the only brand that is using Polygon and NFTs to create new loyalty programs. Starbucks, Nike, McDonald’s, Reddit, and Coca-Cola are also experimenting with NFTs to engage their customers and create new value propositions.
