Crypto News- Starknet Achieves 857 TPS in Stress Test

Crypto News– On October 29, Starknet, an Ethereum layer-2 (L2) scaling solution, reached a significant milestone by recording a peak of 857 transactions per second (TPS) during a controlled stress test. This achievement highlights Starknet’s potential to support high-demand blockchain applications while raising questions about long-term scalability.

Stress Test Results and Network Performance

During the 24-hour test, Starknet averaged 127.5 TPS, showcasing its ability to handle significant transaction volumes. Eli Ben-Sasson, CEO of StarkWare, emphasized that while some networks prioritize high TPS at the expense of other values, Starknet’s performance demonstrates that it can scale effectively while maintaining integrity. He stated, This is not a narrow story of ‘success on Starknet.’ It’s an illustration that scaling on blockchain is taking big leaps forward, and that the rails are getting ready for mass use.

Competitive Edge in Gaming Environments

The stress test simulated a high-demand gaming environment, revealing Starknet’s fast transaction speeds and improved throughput compared to competitors like Coinbase’s Base network. Ben-Sasson noted the test’s success was partly due to its user-friendly approach, allowing casual gamers to participate without the complexities often associated with blockchain technology. Starknet’s peak of 857 TPS significantly outperformed Base’s maximum of 79.92 TPS on the same day, achieving an impressive nearly 1,100% increase.

Future Developments and Real-World Challenges

While the results from Starknet’s stress test are promising, Ben-Sasson cautioned that the controlled environment might not accurately reflect real-world conditions. Scaling to accommodate a larger user base can introduce challenges such as congestion and rising gas fees, as seen on networks like Ethereum.

Despite these considerations, Ben-Sasson expressed optimism about Starknet’s future, stating, This is only the very start of the network’s efforts to enhance its TPS limits. He revealed that further developments are on the horizon, including the introduction of the STWO prover in early 2025, which is expected to elevate Starknet’s performance even further.
