Block, Inc., Jack Dorsey’s financial services company, will introduce Bitcoin payments on Square, its payments processing division. The deployment will start later this year, with a full launch scheduled for 2026. Block showcased the feature at the BTC Inc. goods store on May 27, the day the business unveiled the concept at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas.

According to the corporation, pending regulatory permissions, it plans to begin rolling out in the second half of 2025 and reach all qualified Square sellers by 2026.

The action expands upon Square’s current Bitcoin Conversions function, which enables retailers to immediately convert sales to Bitcoin. With Lightning facilitating almost instantaneous settlement and Square managing the backend technicalities, customers may pay by just scanning a QR code.

The company also announced that Bitkey, its self-custody Bitcoin wallet that was introduced in late 2023, will begin to receive enhanced privacy and security capabilities in May. By eliminating the need for conventional seed phrases, these features aim to increase accessibility to self-custody.
