Bitcoin Whale From 2010 Makes First Move, Unlocks $4.67 Million

Bitcoin Whale – In a rare and remarkable move, a Bitcoin whale has transferred 50 BTC—worth approximately $4.67 million at today’s price of $93,455 per coin—after the funds sat untouched for over 15 years. The coins, mined in July 2010, were originally worth less than $5 in total, with Bitcoin trading below $0.10 at the time.

The transaction, first flagged by Bitcoin journalist and historian Pete Rizzo, was sent from a wallet address beginning with “04ba30.” This marked the address’s first-ever outgoing transaction, signaling activity from what the crypto community often dubs an “ancient whale.” The staggering move represents a gain of more than 93,460,500% based on the original valuation—an almost surreal return, even in the high-volatility world of crypto.

Old Bitcoin Addresses Resurface With Massive Gains

While rare, such movements from early Bitcoin wallets are not entirely unprecedented. In November 2024, another long-dormant wallet transferred 2,000 BTC—originally worth around $120—to Coinbase, realizing a gain of roughly 150,000,000%. These events continue to underscore the extraordinary upside potential seen by early adopters.

Satoshi’s Holdings Still Untouched

Despite these mind-blowing figures, the largest Bitcoin stash remains in the hands of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. Satoshi is estimated to control about 1.1 million BTC, now valued at over $102 billion, accounting for more than 5% of Bitcoin’s total supply.

As of today, Bitcoin is trading relatively flat, but remains up 10% on the week, per CoinGecko. The leading cryptocurrency is currently trading about 14% below its all-time high of $108,786, which was reached in January 2025.
